We want to assist in the development of bouldering in a way that we can't
produce here at the shop.
We believe that one of the best ways to do that is
to have more available areas everywhere. This allows more people to go
bouldering and hopefully lessen the impact and crowds at current popular
areas.
Of course, there is no way that we could do all of that work ourselves, so
we want to reward the people who are already doing it. The B.I.G. is sort of
like the grants that Alpinists receive to climb in the Himalayas, but in
this case, we are rewarding the work that has already been done.
Basically, it works like this: Individuals or groups submit information on
bouldering areas that they have developed (in the form of topos, photos,
written info, maps, etc.) and we display them on the Revolution web-site.
The developers of the best bouldering spot, based upon the info we receive,
will be the winner of the B.I.G. prizes.
We wanted to keep it nice and simple, so we figured that $1000 is a
good, round number. That $1000 is divided up into $500 cash and $500 worth
of Revolution Gear.
We will show the Area Submissions on a dedicated section of our web-site and
select a winner of the B.I.G. about every three months. There are no second
or third place grants or prizes, but if a submission does not win, it still
stays in the running for future B.I.G.'s.
In other words, there are no losers in the B.I.G. Except for John Stack, of
course. That guy is a total loser. Just kiddin' Johnny.
We will be opening the doors for submissions on September 1st, 2005. On
December 1st, we will announce the winner and send them the prizes.
December 1st will also be the start of the next 3-month period for B.I.G.
Submissions. The winners (and submitters) do not have to be individual
people, but if it IS a group, then the distribution of the Grant prizes is
their responsibility, not ours.
The areas will be judged on their diversity, quality and general bouldering
merits. The thoroughness of the info that is provided is how the area can
and will be judged, so make sure that you do a good job.
Remember in grade school when your teacher said, "You're on the Honor
System, so don't steal my car keys, you little punks." Well, it's the same
thing here.
We are putting our faith in you. We can't go out and verify every single
bouldering area and/or every bit of information, so please don't try to
bullshit us.
We know and appreciate the effort it takes to develop a bouldering area and
we want to reward that effort. If someone else did all the work, then please
don't take credit for it.
The B.I.G. is our attempt to assist people who are developing bouldering
areas that we can all enjoy for years to come. It is for a much, much larger
cause than lining your pockets, or for that matter, our pockets. Please
don't try to abuse it. Thank You.
